Q&A

Q&A
Q: Where is Eye in the Sky Photography located?
A: We are located in a little piece of heaven called Big Sky. It is in southwest Montana in between West Yellowstone (entrance to Yellowstone National Park) and Bozeman.

Q: Do your photographers travel? What about international travel?
A: Of course, we love too! Kene Sperry photographs weddings and events largely outside of the state of Montana as well as internationally. Please send us an inquiry and we’d be happy to talk with you about your wedding, event or other photography needs that require travel.

Q: Why should I have the photographer for the whole day at my wedding?
A: Our philosophy is that we work by moments not time. We’re photojournalists and photojournalists don’t leave until they’ve told the whole story. On your wedding day, the time is all yours. We want you to be confident that we won’t miss a moment because we’re with you all day.

Q: We don’t need a photographer for the whole day, is there a discount in pricing?
A: In the past we have found that attaching time limits adds unnecessary pressure to the couples we work with. If the schedule doesn’t go according to plan, there can be worry and concern that the photographer will miss a key moment. We have built our pricing differently than other studios so that time isn’t an issue and thus we can’t offer a discount for reduced time.

Q: Can we get a discount for shooting our wedding on a weekday or Sunday?
A: It is the same amount of time, creativity and labor no matter what day of the week we work. There are innate costs built into our packages that don’t change on weekdays or Sundays.

Q: Do you photograph rehearsal dinners? Is that recommended?
A: Yes and yes. Rehearsal dinners are kind of like an icebreaker for you and your guests. They get to meet the photographer and begin building those relationships we are always talking about. Rehearsal dinners are also another piece of the story and if you have spent anytime on this website you know how we feel about stories. Kene has shot so many rehearsal dinners and the couples and their families are always thrilled they decided to add that custom addition.

Q: What is the benefit of having 2 photographers?
A: All packages booked through Kene Sperry include a second shooter. While Kene is a master of being everywhere he brings a practiced associate along to capture the images that require him to literally be in two places at once. Examples include when both the bride and groom are getting ready simultaneously, detail shots of the reception before the guests arrive and candid shots of guests while Kene is focused on the bride and groom. The associate is also responsible for creating the slideshow shown during the reception. Don’t worry, because Kene only works with the best. Kene will always be the lead shooter at weddings he shoots.
Associate photography only includes the lead shooter but a second shooter is available as a custom addition.

Q: Is it true that a custom slideshow will be shown at our wedding? Can we see it again after the wedding day has concluded?
A: We love our slideshows. Kene’s second shooter is hard at work during the reception creating a slideshow of 150-200 of our favorite images from your day. We play the slideshow once on a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display during a break in all the reception festivity. This slideshow is a wonderful addition to your wedding; you and all of your guests will love it. During the slideshow the room fills with crying, laughing, hugging and kissing. It is really a unique experience for everyone. During post-production we add final images to complete the story and then create a personal slideshow website that can be shared with friends and family after the wedding has concluded.
Currently, reception slideshows are only available with Kene Sperry’s packages and not with associate photography.

Q: Are we expected to tip the wedding photographer and their assistant?
A: Tips are not expected but we do appreciate them. They are just a simple expression of how much you loved the images in the slideshow and appreciated the hard work they put in that day.

Q: When will our images be available for proofing?
A: We use digital cameras, so why can’t you see the images right away? Our style of shooting and the creation of your fine art and emotionally creative images requires an extensive period with our post production team. Keep reading below to learn more.

Q: Do you edit the images?
A: Absolutely. We individually edit every image with the Eye in the Sky vision. Kene Sperry comes from a traditional black and white darkroom and knows how integral the editing process is to outcome of the final product. We spend about 40-60 hours in the studio with our post-production team.

Q: How many images can we typically expect from wedding and family shoots?
A: Once your images have gone through the post-production process our wedding clients receive about 800-1000 from their wedding day and an additional 200-300 if the selected rehearsal dinner coverage. Families can expect anywhere from 100-200 images.

Q: Where should we have you shoot our family portrait session?
A: Great question. Our family shoots are all about expressing the personalities and love within your family. We want you to choose or help you to choose location(s) that are an authentic expression of what your family is like. We love to start out in your home where everyone is comfortable and then move out of doors, whether it be winter or summer. If love to ski, then we’ll take it to the slopes. If you are big hikers or love Montana summers lets head to the Gallatin River or Ousel Falls. We’ve photographed children skateboarding, families flying kites, families with their fly rods and if you have an idea I’m sure we can make it work. The most important thing is to just be yourselves and do what your family does best, love and play together.

Q: What should we wear to our family portrait session?
A: You don’t have to wear jeans and white tops or be color coordinated. Of course, if those are the pictures you had in mind go right ahead. But, we encourage you to dress your children and yourselves how you’d actually dress. Our images are about capturing you and your children’s raw personalities and behavior. We all feel most comfortable in clothes we like, and the more comfortable the easier the shoot will be for the whole family. Feel free to have a few change of outfits, we can mix it up as the shoot progresses. If your child wants to wear something silly or ridiculous we recommend you let them for at least part of the shoot. Those images are going to be fantastic because your child is having fun expressing their individuality.

Q: When will be able to see the images from our family shoot?
A: Similar to wedding photography, we spend multiple hours in post-production going through every single image, making sure you get amazing final images of your family. It takes about a month before your images are available to be viewed. Once we’re ready we invite our families to join us in the studio so we can show them our favorite images. We want to create a more personal experience and give clients the opportunity to let us help them visualize how they want to preserve their images in books, print, canvas and more.

Q: What is associate photography?
A: Eye in the Sky also has a select set of associate photographers that work under Kene. They are experienced and share his philosophy about building relationships with clients and producing emotional, authentic images of people. The same Eye in the Sky experience is always preserved no matter which photographer clients work with. Associate photography packages vary from Kene’s package but are customizable. Please send us an inquiry under the contact page for more information.

Q: What about pricing?
A: You like what you see, but you’re wondering about the numbers. Instead of throwing a blanket number out there, we want to talk with you and find out what you want out of your wedding or family portrait photography. All of our clients have different needs and wants and we want to reward what makes you, you, by creating custom packages. It is also very important to us that you fully understand what you are paying for when you hire Eye in the Sky compared to another photography studio.

Q: I submitted an inquiry, what happens next?
A: Thank you so much for taking the next step. We do our best to respond to inquiries sent during the workweek within 24 hours. Weekend inquiries take a little longer. If you are interested in wedding photography our studio manager will give you a call or send you an email to get the conversation going. She will want to hear about you and your fiancé and your upcoming wedding. Next we’ll have you to our studio in Big Sky or if you’re not from around these parts we’ll Skype so we can talk face to face with our photographer Kene.If you are interested in a family shoot or some other type of photography or print sale, our studio manager will get in touch through phone or email.
